A Business Intelligence class solution supporting the operation of the media sector

In the media sector, quick decision-making is of particular importance. A high level of trust in executive information is required. It is, therefore, necessary to have a data warehousethat integrates data from the company’s key information systems, as well as data from the companies that test audience ratings.
 

The solution offered by Bonair supports the following areas in the business of media sector companies:

  • sale of commercial time sales
  • audience ratings (data from external company)
  • finances
  • controlling.

The Sales module allows for a multidimensional analysis of revenues and settlements, monitoring of cooperation with media houses, analysis of revenues generated by various programmes and projects, popularity analysis of the programmes broadcast, and monitoring of the media market.
 

The fundamental elements of the Sales module are as follows:

  • Analysis of revenues and settlements according to gross rating points (GRP) in various dimensions and in reference to the adopted targets (revenue value)
  • Monitoring of Media House activity

o comparing actual expenditures to those declared
o analysis of expenditures in time
o analysis of customers acquired and their expenditures

  • Analysis of TV programmes as regards their profitability, the number of commercials broadcast, clients requesting broadcasts
  • Audience rating analysis
  • Monitoring of the market of various types of media.

Finances
The Finances module allows for the analysis of entries in the accounts, data from the commercial time sales systems, and payment monitoring. It also includes a number of predefined reports, such as:

  • cost analysis
  • the result of operations in the comparative system
  • current result vs. budget
  • the previous year’s results in analogical periods.

The system allows for the monitoring of changes in the predefined elements of the financial/accounting system, and automatically prepares and distributes collective report on changes.
The solution also includes a system for clearing prepayments, automatically sending notices to employees with a detailed list of the delayed payments.

Controlling
The Controlling module contains data from the programme framework system, sales system, and the financial/accounting system. This allows for performing a profitability analysis of the programmes broadcast and particular channels, in the form of a profit and loss account report and derivatives of such report. The reports contain detailed information on:

  • costs and revenues
  • broadcast data
  • audience rating data in selected groups for a channel

o  in various time periods
o  depending on current needs.

The main benefit of launching the module is the possibility of analysing the profitability of channels and programmes, with the precision of particular broadcasts

Consolidation
The Consolidation module is designed for recipients of executive data from the consolidation process in media holding companies. Fundamental tasks of this module include:

  • The cyclical download of data from the consolidation module
  • Processing of data downloaded in order to standardise them with other wholesale data
  • Making data available for multidimensional analyses, the construction of manager desktops and reports 
  • Generation of executive reports prepared according to the templates provided
  • Configuration and management of the contents of executive reports
